What is a proof of concept?
A PoC is a small technical experiment that tests whether an idea can work at all: can this data be processed at that speed, can this integration be built, can this algorithm produce usable results. It is not pretty and not for users; it exists to kill or confirm an assumption before real money follows it.
The argument for starting here is brutal statistics: most startups fail, and roughly a third of failures trace to building something the market did not need or the technology could not deliver as imagined. A PoC costs a fraction of a build and catches the second problem early.

- Novel technology or uncertain feasibility? PoC first. If physics or data says no, nothing else matters.
- Feasibility known, experience unproven? Skip to a prototype and put it in front of users.
- Both proven, demand unknown? Build the MVP; further rehearsal is procrastination with a budget.
- Pitching investors? A prototype (or clickable demo) outperforms a PoC; investors buy the experience and the market, not the algorithm.
